Blogging for dollars sounds great but in practice, it’s a long, rocky road to prosperity. While waiting for your own blog to pay off, consider writing for Examiner.com on the local and national stage. Examiner not only allows you to increase your online presence, but also allows you to generate some income.
The process of becoming a writer for Examiner is a bit controversial. Like most sites, it requires multiple writing samples. No problem, especially if you already have your own blog. But then Examiner requires you to agree to a full background check. Why? Don’t know. But if you want to work for the company, you must sign paperwork authorizing it.
How much do writers get paid to work for Examiner.com? Let’s just say you’re not going to get rich. But remember, that’s not the main idea here. Your goal is to generate traffic to your own blog and also increase your online presence. Rest assured, you will be paid for your efforts. Examiner has a pay-per-click model. Every time someone clicks to read your article, you get paid. A recent poll at Writer’s Weekly indicates that most writers average about $1.50 per article. Not great but remember that this is passive income. Once you write the article, you will continue earning money from it ad infinitum.
Often, writers repurpose old articles for Examiner. This is perfectly permissible. When you write an article for one outlet, you’ve already done all the research, right? Just rewrite the article, perhaps from a slightly different angle, and post it for examiner. It’s a great way to maximize your time and your research.
One of the best things about Examiner is the local aspect of much of the writing. If you spend much of your time in your local library, become your local library examiner. You’ll be able to write about what you already know, and get paid for doing it.
